Nestled within the postcard-perfect village of Ringmore in the South Hams, Hideaway Cottage is a delightful Grade II listed thatched cottage offering charm, comfort and an authentic Devon village experience. Full of original character and perfectly positioned for exploring South Devon’s stunning coastline, this cosy retreat provides an idyllic escape for couples, walkers and small families alike.
Dating back around 200 years, Hideaway combines traditional cottage features with modern comforts. Exposed beams, thick stone walls and charming cottage proportions create a wonderfully welcoming atmosphere throughout, while thoughtful touches ensure a relaxing stay in every season.
The cosy lounge is the perfect place to unwind after a day exploring the coast and countryside, with comfortable seating, a TV and an ornamental open fireplace adding to the cottage’s warm and inviting feel. The kitchen/diner, located within a modern rear extension, is well-equipped for self-catering stays and includes an electric cooker with halogen hob, fridge, dishwasher and washer/dryer. A dining table with seating for four makes this a sociable space for family meals and leisurely breakfasts before heading out for the day.
On the ground floor you’ll also find a bathroom complete with bath, WC and hand basin, while upstairs the cottage offers two comfortable bedrooms, one charming double bedroom and one twin room along with a second bathroom featuring a shower, basin and WC. The layout works perfectly for a small family, couples travelling together or friends seeking a relaxing coastal break.
To the rear of the cottage, a tiny courtyard leads to a delightful hidden garden with lawn, flower beds and outdoor seating – a peaceful little sanctuary perfect for enjoying a morning coffee or an evening glass of wine after a day by the sea.
One of Hideaway Cottage’s greatest attractions is its exceptional location. Ringmore itself is one of South Devon’s most picturesque villages, centred around its ancient church and the renowned Journey’s End Inn, a popular pub known for its welcoming atmosphere and excellent food. From the cottage, a scenic 20-minute walk leads you down to Ayrmer Cove, a beautiful National Trust-owned beach and access point to the South West Coast Path.
For traditional seaside days, Bigbury-on-Sea is just a short drive away, offering expansive sandy beaches, watersports, cafés and iconic Burgh Island, famous for its Art Deco hotel and Agatha Christie connections. The surrounding South Hams coastline, estuaries and nearby Dartmoor National Park provide endless opportunities for walking, exploring and enjoying the very best of Devon.
Hideaway Cottage offers guests a truly authentic South Devon stay combining timeless cottage charm, coastal beauty and a wonderfully peaceful village setting.
