The Perfect Dinner in the Bigbury-On-Sea Area

Bigbury-On-Sea is spoilt for choice when wanting to consider dining experiences in the surrounding area.  A walk or short drive away from our Stargazy property opens you to a range of eateries from pubs to fine dining restaurants to private coastal pods.  Below is a list of some of our favourites in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

THE CRABSHELL INN

A family friendly destination, located on the Kingsbridge Estuary.  With both outdoor and inside seating, it is a great location for all year round.  Their ethos is about bringing you fresh food that offers comfort and joy.  Hosting a whole host of events and live music evenings throughout the year, this is definitely a place to check out!

THE LOBSTER POD BISTRO

A half an hour drive from most of our properties will bring you to the stunning Hope Cove, and the Lobster Pod Bistro.  Open seven days a week, they serve local seafood and pizzas.  The pods are bookable for up to 10 people or they have additional outdoor seating.  Located above the harbour, the bistro has incredible views out to sea.  Booking is essential.

THE OYSTER SHACK

Located in Bigbury village, this shack is open Monday to Sunday from April throughout summer.  Housing an oyster farm a mere 30 years ago, locals would come to buy oysters to accompany their picnic lunch.  From here the concept grew becoming what it is today.  Keeping the ethos alive, they have extended to include a restaurant with indoor and outdoor seating.  Offering a selection of local seafood and a children’s menu, booking is recommended.

THE VILLAGE INN

This traditional pub is everything you could hope for in a Devon local, with its own spin.  Enjoy your dinner beneath the beams of wrecked Spanish Armada ships.  Loved by locals, this gastro pub has all the classics on the menu.  Catering for vegans and vegetarians alongside offering a children’s menu, this is one for the whole family.  If you fancy extending dinner, pop next door to the Voyage Spa for a relaxing spa afternoon before dinner.

TWENTY SEVEN

Owned by Head Chef Jamie Rogers, bought at the age of 27.  The restaurant offers an option of either á la carte or tasting menu, with vegan and vegetarian menus available.  With a simple ethos of using fresh local ingredients, served in a relaxed, yet vibrant environment. All produce is raised, caught, or grown within twenty-seven miles of the restaurant.  Open Tuesday to Saturday, with booking highly recommended.
