Annual Events in the Bigbury-On-Sea Area

This Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty has lots on offer when it comes to annual events.  Whether you want to try some local produce, listen to live music, or watch some fireworks, there is something for you.  Below we have listed some of the excellent events that happen throughout the year in the Bigbury-On-Sea area for you to enjoy on Your Devon Escape.

This festival celebrates Salcombe’s fishing and tourist industries.  With chef demonstrations, talks and tuitions alongside exhibitors and live music, it is a delightful day out for any foodie.  Fancy a go at crab pot making? Or taking part in a crab picking masterclass? Or sitting back and learning from some excellent local and award-winning chefs?  This is the place.  This family friendly festival is free to all, with street stalls and activities for everyone.

This free event aims to be a weekend long party for locals and visitors.  A stone’s throw from Bigbury-On-Sea, pay it a visit for some delicious locally produced food and excellent live music.  For tastes, smells, and sounds, this is an event not to miss.  Enjoy exploring the diverse range of culinary and acoustic treats.  Keep the children entertained with a range of activities from craft workshops and face painting to a children’s disco.

This free week along event is packed with a whole programme of activities to be enjoyed by all ages.  Take part in one of the many races throughout the week.  Enjoy some delicious food and drink at the teddy bear’s picnic.  Take a trip on a ride at the funfair.  The week begins with the crowing of the Fair Queen, and closes with a carnival procession and lantern parade.

A family-friendly regatta week packed with activities on land and sea for everyone.  Enter the ice cream eating competition to try the best of Salcombe Dairy’s ice cream.  Build sandcastles at the beach in the sandcastle building competition.  Listen to the live music at one of the venues across the town.  With stalls to find that holiday keepsake, a fancy-dress competition, and yoga events for those wanting to relax, there is truly something for everyone during this week of fun in Salcombe town.

Located in nearby Plymouth, this is Britain’s best firework display.  It is the most anticipated event in the city’s annual events calendar.  With thousands of spectators heading up to the Hoe and Mount Batten Peninsula for two evenings of entertainment, we can say that this is a popular event.  Pop over to Plymouth for an evening of the best firework displays in the UK.  Or make a day of it and head into the aquarium for a day of learning and exploring, followed by dinner next door at Rockfish before the main event.

A fantastic day out for all the family. There are events taking place in the main ring all day.  A children’s corner, a pet corner and donkey rides.  Have a browse through the selection of modern and vintage tractors.  Walk through the hundreds of trade, craft, and food and drink stands.  Enjoy the horses, cattle and sheep that are competing or for sale.  Chat to some of the Young Farmers and admire the floral art and horticulture.  With live music and a licensed bar, it is a day of exploring the life of many who live in the local area.

A free weekend festival of live music, comedy, and entertainment.  The event is hosted by many local venues, allowing you to explore the town.  It hosts lots of local bands, artists, and personalities.  The weekend concludes with a headline show on the Sunday evening with a range of performances for you to enjoy.  Pop into the town whilst staying in one of our lovely properties for a fun-filled day out.
