Family Days Out in and Around Totnes

There are many attractions in and around Totnes that offer a day of adventure for all the family.  Whatever the weather, there is plenty to explore.  Stay in one of our other properties and take a trip through the countryside to one of the many attractions in the area.

BERRY POMEROY CASTLE

Tucked away in a deep wooded valley, lies this stunning old castle.  Surrounded by woodlands, this ruin is perfectly located for walkers.  For those wanting a more relaxing day out, stop for a light lunch or spot of tea and cake at the café.  Pre-booking is recommended or use your English Heritage membership card.  Open March to October.

CHINA BLUE

Visit the ceramic studios to bring out the family’s creative side.  Browse through their selection of ceramics and paint the perfect dog, coaster, or plate.  Create the perfect holiday momentum, to take home and remember Your Devon Escape forever.  Pop into the café for a spot of lunch or afternoon tea to extend your visit.  Booking is advised.

DARTMOOR OTTER SANCTUARY & BUCKFAST BUTTERFLY FARM

A family run attraction that is open all year round.  Their aim is to encourage and inspire visitors of all ages to learn more about the daily life of these two fascinating creatures.  Experience the otters in their natural habitat and learn all there is to know about beautiful butterflies.  Pre-booking is advised.

OCCOMBE FARM

With a mix of farm attractions, Occombe Farm can provide fun for all the family. From indoor play, to animal encounters, and barn and animal paddock trails.  The farm works with a local conservation charity, doing their bit to support the surrounding landscape.  Ask an employee to find out more.  Open seven days a week with events happening throughout the year, this is a place to not miss.

PAIGNTON ZOO

A fun-filled, educational day for all the family.  Part of a worldwide network of zoos who care for and breeds rare species.  Pay them a visit to learn about animals from all over the world.  From feeding times, soft play, and outdoor parks, to train rides, there is truly something for all the family.  Accessible for buggies and wheelchair users.  Open every day of the year (except Christmas Day).

PENNYWELL FARM

Open seven days a week from February to October, offering rides, animal cuddles, egg collecting and more.  With events happening every half an hour throughout the day, learn all you need to know about the world of farming in an interactive, activity-orientated way.  Accessible for buggies and wheelchairs.  Take the trip and experience a different way of Devon living.

ROUND ROBIN

Steam train, river cruise and bus.  One of the best ways to explore Devon, visiting Totnes, Paignton, and Dartmouth in one.  You can depart from any of the three locations, making it a perfect day out from many of our property locations.  Running April to October, explore the Devon countryside by land and water.

SOUTH DEVON RAILWAY

Running along the River Dart between Buckfastleigh and Totnes, this train ride can take you to other attractions in South Devon such as the Otter Sanctuary.  Holding events throughout the year, this is a unique experience to consider whilst on Your Devon Escape.  Open March to October.

SPLASHDOWN QUAYWEST

Open from April to October, it offers a day of wet and wonderful fun.  Tumble on tyres and twist through tubes, there is something for everyone to enjoy.  For those wanting to sit and relax, lay in the sun whilst the rest of the family enjoy the adventure.  An essential for a sunny, staycation day.  

TOTNES CASTLE

Climb to the top of the keep and enjoy stunning views over the town of Totnes and the River Dart.  Enjoy a picnic in the grounds, with plenty of space for families to relax and run around.  Pre-booking is recommended or use your English Heritage membership.  Open March to November.

TOTNES MYSTERY TRAIL

A detective mystery themed walking trail around Totnes.  An ideal day out to explore the town.  Trails are completed at your own pace but is estimated to take two hours.  It is two miles of fun.  Stop and have something to eat or drink on the way at one of our recommendations.  The map can be posted to you or downloaded on a phone. 

TOTNES RARE BREEDS FARM

A small family run attraction set in beautiful surroundings beside the South Devon steam railway.  An interactive and educational experience for both adults and children.  Wheelchair and pram friendly, explore in rain or shine.  Open March to October.

VUE CINEMA

A perfect morning, afternoon, or evening activity whilst away.  Genres and ratings for all the family.  Have a look on their website to book or turn up to see what’s on.  Always showing the latest releases.  Get their early to get your popcorn or ‘pic n mix’ fix.
