Exmoor National Park

Exmoor is one of the UK’s smallest National Parks, but what it lacks in size it makes up for in beauty and variety.  Located on the coast, with expansive moorland, steep wooded valleys and rolling farmland, there is so much to explore.  Be sure to check out this beautiful section of the county’s landscape on Your Devon Escape.

Exmoor is a unique and special place, with a distinctive landscape shaped by generations of farming, mining, fuel-making, settlements, defence, and recreation.  Today it is celebrated and enjoyed for its wonderful variety of heather and grass moors, ancient woodlands and forests, picturesque villages, dramatic coastline, magnificent herds of red deer and native ponies, and at night the magic of its dark skies.

The park is not only beautiful but full of history and culture.  The archaeological and cultural heritage is remarkable, with new sites and discoveries being made all the time.  Exmoor National Park is also designated internationally for the habitats and species that they support.  And then you have the night skies.  Exmoor National Park is internationally renowned for its night skies and is part of the International Dark Sky Reserve.  Be sure to catch a sunset within the national park to enjoy the out of this world starry roof that is visible when the sun goes down.

With so much to see and do in this park, you will want to visit more than once.  Enjoy farm tours, explore the park by foot or bike, enjoy the coastline, taste the locally produced wine, or head to the distillery.  No matter your age, or what you enjoy, there is something for everyone in this pocket of Devon.  Be sure to head to their website to find out more and enjoy a day trip on Your Devon Escape.
