Crabbing
If you are looking for a free activity for the kids near Stoke Fleming, head down the road to Dartmouth to try one of the local classics. Loved by all ages, sit along the embankment with your bait and bucket. Spend the afternoon watching the boats fly by as you wait in anticipation to catch one of the many crabs in the River Dart. Grab a takeaway pint from the pub or a fish and chips for Rockfish and settle in. Realise you are a family of natural ‘crabbers’? Take part in the crabbing competition at Dartmouth’s very own Royal Regatta.
Flavel Arts Centre
Located just off Foss Street in Dartmouth, the centre holds a multitude of events throughout the year for kids. It runs a weekly film club, partnering with the George & Dragon pub for dinner. Pop in during the day to use the library for those book lovers or have a look at the events being held for children on the weekends and during the holidays.
National Marine Aquarium
This is the UK’s largest aquarium. It is part of the ocean conservation trust, a charity dedicated to connecting people with the ocean. It hosts a range of exciting exhibits and activities. Stroke a sting ray or simply just sit back and watch the fish. They hold events throughout the year including beach explores or clean ups, and marine snorkelling. Check out their website to get involved. To complete the day out, venture across to Rockfish, located a two-minute walk away, to try some locally sourced, sustainable fish and chips.
Olive Pots
Book the kids in for a pottery workshop in Dartmouth’s Market Square. Spend a couple of hours learning how to make a unique holiday momentum and spend time browsing the array of stunning handcrafted pieces Olivia has on display. Holding small group sessions, enjoy a private family workshop to learn the arts of pottery.
Round Robin
Steam train, river cruise and bus. If you are looking for a perfect day out with the kids close to Stoke Fleming, the Round Robin is perfect! It is one of the best ways to explore Devon, visiting Totnes, Paignton, and Dartmouth in one, with departures from each location. Running April to October, explore the Devon countryside by land and water.
Slapton Ley Field Centre
Slapton Field Centre is located on the Start Bay coast, surrounded by the two hundred and ten hectares of the Slapton Ley national Nature Reserve. They offer various courses throughout the year for all ages and educational activities for children. If you fancy learning more about local wildlife, taking a photography or drawing class, or learning about conservation check out their website.
Woodlands Leisure Park
Being the largest theme park in Devon, it is packed with fun for all the family. It holds the largest indoor play areas in the South West, alongside water slides and a zoo farm. There is endless fun on offer, whether the rain is pouring, or the sun is shining. They hold events throughout the year, including a Santa’s Grotto, and welcome special visitors such as Peppa Pig.
