Treat Yourself to a Dinner in Totnes

Hosting a range of restaurants from pubs to fine dining, with most if not all offering vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free menus, Totnes’ eateries can cater for anyone.  Below we have listed a few of our favourites.

BIANCA E MASSIMO

This restaurant is about the whole experience rather than just a meal.  The restaurant is small and welcoming, offering a completely gluten-free and vegan menu.  Run by a local couple, their ethos is about sharing good, natural food with friends and neighbours.  The menu consists of a set menu, including an antipasto platter to share between the group. If a cosy, intimate dining experience is one for you, then this is your place.  Booking is essential.

BEN’S WINE AND TAPAS BAR

Located on Totnes High Street, this tapas bar is all about the food and drink the owners love.  It is all about small plates of delicious, simple food.  There are local, seasonal, and dietary variations to the menu, with a full vegan and vegetarian menu.  It is mainly Spanish themed, with North African, Mexican, Middle Eastern and British influences.  They are open Monday to Saturday with booking recommended.

GATHER

Created by three friends from Exeter College, this restaurant offers a cosy and relaxed fine dining experience.  It offers a tasting menu, showcasing dishes using locally sourced ingredients.  The restaurant is located on Totnes High Street, in the heart of the town.  It is open Tuesday to Saturday with booking highly recommended.

RUMOUR

This restaurant is a local classic.  Offering large and small plates, stone baked pizzas and burgers, their focus is on making delicious and wholesome food.  This restaurant is renowned for its relaxed atmosphere, with friendly staff.  They use locally sourced ingredients and suppliers to bring you the best of Devon in a casual way.  Vegan and vegetarian options are available, with children welcome.

STEAM PACKET INN

Located next to the River Dart, enjoy your dinner whilst watching the boats go by with a countryside backdrop.  Their menu consists of pub classics with a modern flair.  Eat outside to enjoy the summer sun or cosy up by the fire through those colder winter months.  Vegan and vegetarian options are available alongside a full gluten-free menu.  

TAGUCHI-YA

Taguchi-Ya is a family kitchen, offering a relaxed, informal dining experience.  They offer simple but delicious home cooking.  All food is cooked by two women, bringing you authentic food.  This canteen is loved by locals.  Opening Thursday to Saturday evenings only, booking is essential.  Vegan and vegetarian options are available.

WATERSIDE BISTRO

Offering local seafood, pizzas and burgers, this restaurant is full of family favourites.  Located next to the River Dart, dine outside for views of the river.  The bistro is open seven days a week, serving fresh and local produce.  With vegan and vegetarian options available, they offer something for everyone.
