Blackpool Sands

Set in an unspoilt, sheltered bay, it is a safe option for a beach day out.  Swim, sail or relax on the sand.  Hire kayaks and paddleboards throughout the summer to get on the water.  It is a short trip from either village, accessible by bus, car or on foot.  Take down a picnic, barbeque or treat yourself to lunch or an ice cream at the Beach Café. Beach lifeguards are present throughout the summer months, from July to September.  Dogs are welcome on the beach from November to March.  They hold events on the beach throughout the summer including Tunes on the Sands and their very own beach cinema evenings.  With toilets and showers available and disabled facilities, this is very much a beach for everyone to sit back and relax.

Crabbing

A local classic.  One which is loved by all ages.  Head into Dartmouth town and spend the afternoon watching the boats fly by as you wait in anticipation to catch the many crabs in the River Dart.  Set up camp along the embankment or at Bayard’s Cove, where you can grab takeaway fish and chips from Rockfish, or the adults can grab a pint from the Dartmouth Arms.  Realise you are a family of natural crabbers?  Take part in the crabbing competition at Dartmouth’s very own Royal Regatta.  This is one of the best free and locally-loved child-friendly activities near Slapton and Torcross.
