If you’re staying in one of our South Devon holiday cottages this autumn, you’re in for a sparkling treat! Bonfire Night is a much-loved tradition across the UK, and South Devon knows how to put on a show, from cosy village displays to big city firework extravaganzas.
Whether you’re travelling with little ones or planning a grow up getaway, here’s our guide to the best Bonfire Night events in South Devon this November.
Dittisham Fireworks & Bonfire
Date: TBC (usually early November)
Location: The Ham, outside The Ferry Boat Inn, Dittisham
A magical riverside setting makes this one of the most atmospheric local displays. Expect a community feel, BBQ, refreshments, and a lovely view across the Dart. It’s a great one for guests staying near Dartmouth or Totnes. No booking needed, but donations are welcomed to support the village event.
Blackawton Bonfire & Fireworks
Date: TBC (usually early November)
Location: Starts from The George Inn, Blackawton
Join the villagers for a torchlit procession from the pub to the field, where you’ll find a roaring bonfire, fireworks, and food stalls. It’s low key, family friendly, and has a fun local feel. A perfect choice if you’re staying in the South Hams.
Date: Saturday 1st November 2025
Location: Shaldon Beach (near Teignmouth)
A classic coastal display on the beach! See a blazing Viking ship set sail from Shaldon Beach followed by fireworks set off at The Point in Teignmouth. If you would like to contribute clean wood and Viking themed guys for the Viking Ship, bring them to the beach on the day.
The bonfire on Shaldon Beach is usually lit at 6:30pm and the firework display from The Point begins at around 7:15pm. Some of this is tide dependent, but the event is free!
Brixham Town FC Bonfire & Halloween Night
Date: Friday 31st October 2025
Location: Wall Park Road, Brixham
The club is hosting a fireworks and fright night from 4.30pm. Fancy dress is optional but there will be plenty of fun including a disco, spooky milkshakes and hot chocolate and merch stands for glow sticks! The firework display starts at 6pm. Members can attend for free but must register. Tickets are available online for non-members.
Date: Wednesday 5th November 2025
Location: Plymouth Hoe
If you’re looking for the biggest display in the region, this is it! A huge bonfire and fireworks set against the sea, with fairground rides, street food and thousands of people joining in the fun. Arrive early to find a good viewing spot. The display begins at 7:30pm sharp.
Date: Saturday 8th November 2025
Location: Dartington Estate, near Totnes
Set in beautiful parkland, Dartington’s display often includes live music, street food, and a brilliant firework show. It’s a fantastic family friendly option with a laid back, festival vibe.
Tips for Bonfire Night in Devon
- Wrap up warm: Coastal and countryside locations get chilly in the evenings. Layers and sturdy shoes are a must.
- Bring cash: Many smaller events (like Blackawton and Dittisham) rely on donations or small cash only stalls.
- Arrive early: These are popular events! Parking and good viewing spots can go quickly.
- Check for updates: Some displays are weather dependent. It’s worth checking local social media pages or websites on the day.
