Whether you’re looking for a romantic getaway, a family holiday in nature, or the peace and quiet of the woodland, The Cabin at Gara Mill is the perfect holiday lodge in Devon.
The Cabin is a beautiful Norwegian wood lodge set in a secluded valley in the South Hams. With three bedrooms and two bathrooms, it’s a perfect holiday retreat between the seaside, the rolling hills and the popular towns of Dartmouth, Totnes and Salcombe.
One of only nine private lodges at Gara Mill, The Cabin is designed to blend into its natural habitat. You can escape the rush of daily life in this exceptional tranquil setting. Count the butterflies in summer or dabble your feet in the crystal-clear waters of the Gara River. Stroll up to the meadow for a firepit barbeque or a picnic on Your Devon Escape.
The main room is an open-plan lounge and kitchen with a smart dining area. It’s sunny and airy with full-length windows and a panoramic forest view. The Cabin is at the top of the river valley, so it drinks in all the light above the trees.
The kitchen is pretty and practical, with new appliances and oak shelves. You’ll find a toaster, cafetieres and everything you need for cooking at home. The kitchen will be supplied with t-towels and a sundry pack.
This holiday lodge in Devon sleeps up to five adults and a child in comfort. The main bedroom has a built-in-wardrobe and woodland views. There is a modern en-suite shower room with underfloor heating, a demisting mirror and heated towel rail.
The twin bedroom also has built-in cupboards. The third bedroom has a good-sized single bed with a truckle bed which pulls out for a small person, a large chest of drawers and a washer-dryer; essential kit for family holidays!
The newly fitted main bathroom has a large bath with shower above, a demisting mirror, underfloor heating, and a heated towel rail. A starter supply of toilet rolls, and hand soap will be available in the bathrooms.
The large sunny deck is ideal for dining al fresco after a day of exploring or relaxing with a book and a glass of wine. Afternoon snoozes on the modern sofas are seriously recommended.
Watch the stars in this designated dark sky area. Light the log burner in winter and throw open the patio doors in summer. Slapton Beach and Slapton Ley Nature Reserve are two miles away and the whole of the South Devon coast is your playground in this idyllic spot.
Gara Mill is a wonderful spot for a family holiday. Bring your wellies and tromp down to the river to see the wildlife and have a paddle. Or walk up to the meadow above and cook supper on the communal firepit. Spot birds and butterflies, listen to the sounds of nature at night and watch the stars. It’s a safe space, with very few cars, where children can immerse themselves in nature.
The Cabin is great for bucket-and-spade holidays, with dozens of sandy and shingle beaches to choose from, boats and small ferries to take, ice cream parlours to visit. Your children will never be bored! There’s even a fire pit that’s positioned high above the cabin overlooking the valley beyond – the perfect excuse to roast a marshmallow.
The Cabin is a haven for nature lovers and lovers in general. Plan your perfect mini break in this holiday lodge in Devon. Take long coastal walks and eat out in gourmet pubs. Browse the arty shops of Totnes, Kingsbridge and Dartmouth.
The nearest beaches are Slapton Sands and Blackpool Sands, a ten and fifteen minute drive respectively. Head to Slapton Ley Field Centre to learn about the local wildlife.
The area is home to its own unique World War Two history. Make sure to check out the Sherman Tank located in the beach car park and learn the moving story of what took place here in 1943.
