Why a Staycation?

Now the world has opened up, and we can once again go abroad, why would one choose a staycation?  And why would one choose a staycation in Devon?

Devon has been voted one of the best places in the UK for a staycation, and we believe there are loads of reasons why!  From beaches, woodlands and open moorland to quaint villages and beautiful cities, there is so much to explore in this corner of the world.  Below we have listed our top reasons to come and visit us in sunny Devon and enjoy a memorable holiday…

Bring your pooch with you and let them enjoy a holiday too.  A staycation means you do not have to worry about putting your dog in a kennels or leaving them with family or friends.  With many beautiful walks and dog-friendly beaches, let them be a part of your memorable staycation.  Introduce them to the water or take them out for dinner and drinks at one of the many dog-friendly restaurants and pubs.  Check out our blog posts on beaches in around Totnes, Dartmouth & Bigbury-On-Sea to find out more.

With many a river and stream as well as two coastlines of ocean, there are endless opportunities to try a new water sport without the need to fly.  From paddleboarding to surfing and kayaking, there are so many options for your staycation.  Try a lesson at one of the many companies on offer or simply hire a board or kayak at one of the stunning beaches.  Or simply pack your own in the car and take it on an adventure.

Devon is well-known for its wide selection of local alcohols.  From spirits to wine and beer, we really have everything on our doorstep.  Visit a vineyard and complete a wine tasting.  Go on a gin or rum tour and make your own.  Finish a day on Dartmoor with a glass of Dartmoor whisky.  Take your favourites home to remember Your Devon Escape and share with family and friends.

There is an endless selection of good restaurants and cafés to enjoy, serving local produce.  Indulge in some local seafood, caught that day, or enjoy local meat from the next field over.  With much of Devon’s land belonging to farming, experience locally grown fruit and vegetables at many of the local eateries.  Try local whilst staying local, and experience what Devon has to offer regarding food.

With so much for the children to do on the doorstep and the ability to simply back all that is needed into a car, Devon is the perfect option for a holiday with the kids.  With many options for both indoor and outdoor fun, and a variety of free options, it is the perfect place to bring the children for endless fun.  Check out our blogs for activities around Totnes, Dartmouth and Bigbury-On-Sea to find out more and create family memories on Your Devon Escape.

Devon is one of two counties home to two coastlines and is home to some of the UK’s best beaches.  With bays of golden sand or shingle, paddle in the waters or nose in the many rockpools.  Enjoy a local ice cream on a hot day or wrap up and take a stroll to watch the waves in the wet and cold.  Devon’s beaches can truly be explored in all weathers and all seasons.

Not only do the two coastlines provide excellent beaches but also beautiful walks.  With the South West Coast Path running along each coastline, there are many great walks on offer.  Walk to one of the many ‘secret’ beaches or just take in the stunning views out to sea.  If the coast path isn’t enough for you, Devon is also home to Dartmoor National Park, an extensive open moorland with a variety of walks on offer for all ages and abilities.  Check out our blog posts on Devon walks to see our recommendations.  Find the perfect walk for you and explore much of what Devon has to offer by foot.

A staycation is the perfect option to include all generations.  It is ideal for those who cannot, or do not wish to, fly.  It is the perfect option for big groups to come together without the hassle.  Simply hop in the car with everything you need.  We have a selection of larger properties who can accommodate to big groups with various needs.  Check out our listings to find out more.
