Teignmouth is a seaside town located in Devon, finding itself on the north bank of the estuary of the River Teign.  It is home to beautiful sandy beaches, and historic Georgian houses.  There is lots to do within this picturesque town, from walks, to great pubs and seafood, and lots of arts and culture to explore.  A short drive from all our properties, check out our recommendations below for what to do on a day out in Teignmouth on Your Devon Escape.

Catch this historic ferry across the mouth of the River Teign.  It is a passenger ferry which operates a continuous daily service between Teignmouth and Shaldon.  The ferry operates all year round, with a restricted service during the winter months.  Dogs, bicycles, and prams are welcome on board, but be aware that the ferry is accessed via the beach on both sides.  Take a trip over to admire the beautiful beach huts located along the water’s edge, and stroll through the quaint town of Shaldon.

The Pavilions is a contemporary performing arts centre, home to theatre shows, comedy nights, dance, and film.  It is a cultural hub for Teignmouth and the surrounding areas, promoting creative, social, and economic growth.  Head to their website to find out what’s on during Your Devon Escape, and book to see some contemporary culture one evening.

A long sandy beach runs all the way from the mouth of the River Teign to Holcombe, further down the coast.  Whether you simply want a stroll, a dip in the sea or a day at the beach, Teignmouth is the place for you.  Stroll along the Victorian Promenade and Pier, watch the fishing boats heading out to sea, or lie and bathe in the sun.  Admire the colourful buildings along the seafront, stop for an ice cream at one of the many kiosks positioned along the promenade, or try a water sport from the beach.  With lots to do on this stretch of beach, be sure to check it out on Your Devon Escape, and for other beach recommendations, be sure to head to our journal.

Explore the whole of Teignmouth as you try to complete the treasure hunt trail and find the precious booty.  To complete this hunt, you will need a treasure map, which is instantly downloadable in PDF form, and stacked with lots of handy hints and clues that will take you searching through monuments and landmarks.  The trail takes about two hours to complete and allows you to explore the town as you go.  Discover the history of boat building down by the docks.  Take a stroll along the seafront.  Take the tram up the hill and absorb the panoramic views out to sea.  Be sure to pack a picnic or try one of the wonderful cafes within the town.  Treat yourself to a Devon classic of fish and chips on your day out in Teignmouth.

Located opposite the seafront, The Den is a large area of flat grass perfect for enjoying a picnic or some fish and chips.  It is full of activities for all ages including a bowling green, playground, crazy golf, and skate park.  You could simply head down to The Den and enjoy the whole day there!  It is a great place to base yourself if travelling with a big group.  The town centre is a short walk away, so those who want to go for a wander and explore can.  And for those who want to chill, or watch the children run around the green and play in the park, can sit back, and relax.  Bring a cricket or rounders set, or a football, and create endless hours of fun on Your Devon Escape.

Follow the South West Coast Path from Teignmouth to Dawlish.  Wander alongside the trainline and sea wall to admire the most photographed stretch of railway in Britain.  Stop in Dawlish town or walk all the way to The Warren and be consumed by the wildlife.  Stop for a swim or a bite to eat before heading back.  Either return the way you walked or hop the train back.  Make sure to check the tide times before completing the walk because parts of impassable at high tide.
