North Devon

North Devon is known for its award-winning coastline, rugged cliffs, and breath-taking views.  Most of this pocket of Devon finds itself within the North Devon Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and once you visit you will understand why.  It is the perfect playground for doing what you love.  Spending time with family, walking, eating, surfing, and celebrating.  Check out our properties in the area and book Your Devon Escape today.

North Devon is full of charming market towns and quaint villages.  Take a trip to Clovelly and witness the cobbled streets and traditional cottages.  Or head to Barnstaple to visit the oldest and largest town in the region.  For seaside resorts, check out Woolacombe, Westward Ho!, Bideford or Ilfracombe.  Or if you are looking for a surfer’s paradise, Croyde and Saunton are the places to be!

If you are a lover of the outdoors, North Devon is the ideal escape for you.  There are endless thrill-seeking activities to get involved in from surfing, kayaking and paddleboarding in the coastal areas, to hiking and biking to explore the scenery.  Exmoor is full of beautiful walking trails and wildlife, including the infamous Exmoor ponies.  We recommend packing a picnic for a day of exploring because there is just something special about settling down for a picnic following a walk and watching the ponies against the backdrop of the moors.

If the beach is your holiday destination, North Devon is ideal for you.  Enjoy rock pooling, swimming, and surfing, with much of the coastline being part of the UK’s top surf spots.  With a stretch of coastline fit for every kind of beach lover, be sure to make it Your Devon Escape this year!  Croyde Beach is a surfer’s heaven, Tunnels Beach is the perfect spot for families because of its calm tidal bathing pools, and Westward Ho! Beach offers a large expanse of sandy beach to choose from.  From little coves to golden sand, sheltered bathing pools and excellent waves, there is an endless choice of beaches to choose from in North Devon.

For those who enjoy a good stomp, whether you are a fair-weather saunter, dog walker or serious rambler, there are miles of coastal walks and trails to choose from, suiting all ages and abilities.  See the best of the North Devon coast by walking sections of the South West Coast Path.  Explore cliffs, seaside towns and golden sandy beaches, whilst breathing in the refreshing coastal air and wildlife.  Walking along this stretch of coast path is one of our favourite things to do, rain or shine.

North Devon isn’t just for the outdoorsy types.  The region has a whole host of amazing attractions partnered with great local food and drink.  Head to Lynmouth and Lynton and ride the world’s steepest water-powered funicular to travel between the seaside towns.  Enjoy fabulous views of the coastline, and maybe a cream tea, before heading back on the cliff railway nestled by the harbour.  Or Ilfracombe is particularly popular with families and holiday makers, offering a wide range of restaurants, cafés, and bars.

Dotted with fishing villages and harbours, North Devon is home to many working ports, with fishing boats bringing in fresh fish and seafood daily.  Be sure to stop by one of the many seafood shacks and stalls to get your hands on fresh crab, cockles, or lobster tails.  Take them back to your holiday property to enjoy in comfort whilst you reflect on a day of exploration.

North Devon hosts several excellent yearly festivals such as Goldcoast Oceanfest.  The festival is an adrenaline-packed celebration of all things extreme sport and is held at Croyde Bay.  With beach football, volleyball competitions, mountain bike trails and skateboarding, there is so many activities to get involved in or spectate.  After engaging in the sports, listen to the live music and watch the big screen entertainment, enjoying a cold beverage from one of the licensed bars.  This is a unique festival always showcasing an excellent line up, so be sure to not miss out on Your Devon Escape.
