The Devon County Show is an annual event held at West Point Arena, Exeter. Welcoming up to ninety thousand visitors over the three days, this show offers hundreds of attractions for all the family. The show has been running for over one hundred and fifty years and remains the flagship event of the Devon County Agricultural Association.
Farming is at the heart of the show, with stockmen and women from across the county competing in the show ring, and agricultural machinery and suppliers out in force showing what they have to offer. The show has changed over the years in line with the farming industry. The agricultural core of the event has remained the same but as the rural economy has changed, so has the event. Top quality, locally produced food and drink has become a key element, to the benefit of both showgoers and the businesses of the producers. What was once a show about farming for farmers has become a show about everything that happens in the Devon countryside, for everyone.
And it truly is an event for everyone. There are lots of hands-on activities for children including a children’s farm where the kids can have the opportunity to milk animals, plant seeds and more. Bring the children along for a day of immersive experiences, fuelling their interests in farming and nature. Make flowerpots, press apples and grind flour. Learn about plant species and different farm animals. Witness the excellent scarecrows and crafts made by local Devon children. Add all of this to the opportunity for the children to get up close to thousands of animals including goats, sheep, alpacas, guinea pigs, cows and pigs and Devon County Show is guaranteed to be their best day out on the calendar this year!
All these animals will be present for viewing and purchasing from a dog show to alpacas to rabbits and guinea pigs. From show jumping to sheep judging, from beef and dairy awards to an alpaca ring, there are lots of breeds of animal to get up close with and learn about from their owners. Simply wander through the livestock area and find several rare breeds.
There is an excellent Food and Drink Pavilion with a seating area for visitors to relax and enjoy their scrumptious purchases. Enjoy the most mouth-watering food and drink the West Country has to offer. With an incredible array of food to snack on, take home, try, and watch, foodies will not be disappointed. Many of the food stands cater for vegetarians, vegans, and gluten free diets, with a full list of exhibitors listed on their website prior to the show.
