Winter in Bigbury-On-Sea

Bigbury-on-Sea hosts lots of indoor and winter activities on its doorstep.  You might think of the area as a summer holiday destination, but it has so much on offer throughout the winter months.  See a different side to the area and its nature.  Wrap up warm and enjoy those summer activities.  Appreciate the area in a different light.

BEACHES

Whatever the weather, it is always a day for the beach in Devon.  On blustery days, enjoy a stroll whilst watching the waves roll in and breathe in the cleansing sea air.  Join the locals for a dip or pack your waterproofs and let the kids splash about in the waves.  All beaches are dog-friendly during the winter, so bring your pooch along for the adventure. CLIP ‘N’ CLIMB

This climbing centre is the perfect activity for all ages.  Offering sessions for people as young as two, encourage the kids to explore their limits in a fun climbing environment.  This is a perfect rainy-day activity.  Engage in a fun challenge perfect for all abilities.  There are adult only sessions for those wanting to try something new or different with partners or friends.  Pre-booking is recommended.

NATIONAL MARINE AQUARIUM

This is the UK’s largest aquarium.  It is part of the Ocean Conservation Trust, a charity dedicated to connecting people with the ocean.  It hosts a range of exciting exhibits and activities.  Stroke a sting ray or sit and simply just sit back and watch the fish.  They hold events throughout the year including beach explores or clean ups, and marine snorkelling.  Check out their website to get involved throughout autumn and winter.  To complete the day out, venture across to Rockfish, located a two-minute walk away, to try some locally sourced, sustainable fish and chips, and watch the boats come in and out of the marina.

PLYMOUTH SNOWSPORTS CENTRE

Whether you fancy skiing, snowboarding, or tubing, this dry ski slope offers an exhilarating day out for all everyone.  It is definitely a unique holiday experience, a contrast to sunny, sandy Devon.  For those wanting to try out a winter sport without having to hop on a plane to try it, it is the perfect winter activity.  This venue is open all weekend through winter, so why not book today.  Pre-booking is essential.

SALCOMBE SHOOTING CENTRE

Open for all ages and levels of experience, the Shooting School offers an ideal and safe environment for anyone wanting to try the sport.  The school offers private or group tuition, alongside shooting parties.  All equipment is provided by the school, so turn up and enjoy a unique countryside experience.  The School’s natural valley is a perfect location to simulate all aspects of game shooting, so book in today and sharpen those skills.

SALTRAM

Saltram overlooks the River Plym, giving you stunning views of both water and countryside.  It is set in a rolling landscape park, providing lots of green spaces for the children to run around or you to enjoy a picnic.  It consists of a stunning country house with original content for you to wander around and admire. SHOPPING

Head into Salcombe or Kingsbridge for the day and check out some of the unique shops there are on offer.  From high-end chains to small independents, there is an array to explore and discover.  Stop for a tasty lunch or an ice cream in one of the many venues available.  Stroll through the towns and enjoy all these small Devon towns have to offer.

SOUTH WEST COAST PATH

SUPER TRAMP

A trampoline park located in nearby Plymouth.  Free jump, wall running, volleyball and more.  Bounce around in the park with friends and family for hours of fun!  There is a café located onsite for those needed rests.  Open all year round, it is recommended to book online.
