Adventure Ideas in Totnes…

Rain or shine, there are so many adventures to be had in Totnes.  Whether you want a morning, afternoon, or all-day activity, we have you covered.  Check out our recommendations below and begin planning Your Devon Escape.

CHINA BLUE

Visit the ceramic studios to bring out your creative side.  Browse through their selection of ceramics and paint the perfect dog, coaster, or plate.  Create the perfect holiday momentum, to take home and remember Your Devon Escape.  Pop into the café for a spot of lunch or afternoon tea to extend your visit.  Booking is advised.

DARTINGTON TRUST

A short walk or an even shorter drive away from Totnes, there is lots going on at the Dartington Trust.  It is a centre for progressive learning in arts, ecology, and social justice.  There is something for everyone’s niche.  Options include cinema evenings, live music, arts, talks and festivals.  With events happening throughout the year, be sure to check out their website to find out what is going on during Your Devon Escape.

DEVON ESCAPE ROOM

This live escape room is in Newton Abbot, a short drive from Totnes.  Be locked in with your friends or family for an hour and try to ‘escape’.  Use puzzle solving skills and teamwork to find your way out.  It is a great way to exercise your mind whilst having fun, and an excellent rainy-day activity.  The room is designed for groups of 2-6 people.  Sounds easy but can you do it in an hour?  Will you all still be speaking at the end of it?

DEVON RUM SCHOOL

Craft your own rum with cocktails at Devon’s Rum School in Dartington.  This adventure activity takes place in a classic American school bus.  They take you on a journey of the history of rum and the different ways to make it.  Enjoy tasters as you learn to build your own flavour profile.  Create your own rum from your flavour profile to take home and enjoy, to share with friends and remember Your Devon Escape.

FLY FISHING

Be introduced to the wonderful sport of fly fishing for trout.  Enjoy a lesson taken at the group’s speed and learn techniques to take away with you and try yourself.  Explore a different side of nature.

HALDON FOREST

Located just outside of Exeter, a short drive from Totnes, enjoy a walk or a bike ride.  With a range of walking and cycling trails to suit all abilities, take a quiet gentle stroll or appreciate an exhilarating mountain biking experience.  They also have a GO APE located in the forest.  Try out a high ropes course and see the forest from a different angle.  With lots of activities and adventures to be had, check out their website and find the right one for you on Your Devon Escape.

SANDRIDGE & BARTON WINES

Nestled in a picturesque valley in Stoke Gabriel, enjoy an afternoon of tasting local wines and cheeses.  This vineyard appears new but is simply a move of Sharpham wines from the Sharpham Estate.  Take part in a tour and tasting, whether self-guided or an in-depth and guided.  Complete the tasting, choose your favourite wines and cheeses, and enjoy overlooking the River Dart with a picnic.  Or treat yourself to a delicious lunch at their on-site restaurant, Circa.

ROUND ROBIN

For this adventure, you can start in Paignton, Dartmouth or Totnes, and finish in the same location.  You can also take the route either way round.  It is a good day out for young and old, and a good way to see South Devon on many modes of transport.  Simply sit back and enjoy the scenery via bus, steam train, and boat.  They have an itinerary planner or create your own.  The round robin runs between April and October.

If none of this takes your fancy, check out our ‘activities for kids’ page, for fun for the whole family.
