Winter Activities Around Slapton and Torcross

BEACHES

Visit the ceramic studios to bring out the family’s creative side.  Browse through their selection of ceramics and paint the perfect dog, coaster, or plate.  Create the perfect holiday momentum, to take home and remember Your Devon Escape forever.  Pop into the café for a spot of lunch or afternoon tea to extend your visit.  A short drive from Slapton and Torcross his is the perfect cold or wet day activity.  Booking is advised.

DARTMOUTH CASTLE

One of the most beautifully located fortresses in England.  A good family day out whatever the weather.  Learn about Dartmouth’s history whilst exploring the old castle and fort.  Admire the wonderful views out to sea whether it’s a sunny day or windy and choppy.  The castle is open on weekends throughout the winter and is accessible by foot along the South West Coast Path, or by car.  Stop for an ice cream, coffee, or lunch at the Castle Tea Rooms.

DARTMOUTH FOOD FESTIVAL

Dartmouth Food Festival is hosted in October of each year.  It brings together local food and drink companies who showcase what they have on offer.  It is a good way to check out the excellent selection the county has on offer.  Taste local spirits, cheeses, chocolates and more, and buy yourself something to take home with you to remember your trip by.  Restaurants in the area put on guest chef events, so why not have a browse and book yourself in for one.  This well-known event is loved by locals and visitors alike, so be sure to check it out on Your Devon Escape.

NATIONAL MARINE AQUARIUM

This is the UK’s largest aquarium.  It is part of the Ocean Conservation Trust, a charity dedicated to connecting people with the ocean.  It hosts a range of exciting exhibits and activities.  Stroke a sting ray or sit and simply just sit back and watch the fish.  They hold events throughout the year including beach explores or clean ups, and marine snorkelling.  Check out their website to get involved throughout autumn and winter.  To complete the day out, venture across to Rockfish, located a two-minute walk away, to try some locally sourced, sustainable fish and chips, and watch the boats come in and out of the marina.  If you are looking for winter activities around Slapton and Torcross, the aquarium is a short drive away.

SLAPTON LEY FIELD CENTRE

SOUTH WEST COAST PATH

The South Devon section of the South West Coast Path allows you to take in some of the breath-taking scenery the area has to offer.  Whatever the weather, walking along the coast path is the perfect way to unwind.  On blustery winter days, wrap up warm and watch the storm waves pound the cliffs.  Or on a sunny winter’s day, walk the coast path in cooler temperatures as if it is summer. WOODLANDS

Being the largest theme park in Devon, it is packed with fun for all the family.  It holds the largest indoor play areas in the South West, making it perfect for wet or cold days.  Open weekends only in winter, pop in for a whole day or just an afternoon and let the kids run wild.  Woodlands offers endless fun whether it is raining, or the sun is shining, so make sure you pop in on Your Devon Escape.
