How are you Celebrating this Jubilee Bank Holiday Weekend?

The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Central Weekend.  This weekend we celebrate the first British Monarch to honour a Platinum Jubilee, marking 70 years of service to the people of the United Kingdom.  With so much going on, how does one choose which events to attend to celebrate this historic milestone?

There are lots of public and community activities going on over this extended bank holiday weekend throughout South Devon.  Check out our list of  recommendations below for events to get involved in on Your Devon Escape.

BRNC EVENT WITH LIVE BANDS, BBQ & FIREWORKS, DARTMOUTH

Spend the evening in Dartmouth’s Britannia Royal Naval College, hosted by the navy.  Enjoy live music, refreshments, and fireworks, at an event for the whole family.  This is a ticketed event, so make sure to purchase from the Guildhall beforehand!

DIAMOND JUBILEE GROUP WALK, DARTMOUTH

Start the bank holiday off right with a stunning coastal walk along the Diamond Jubilee trail, led by the Dartmouth Walk and Talk Group. Starting at Dartmouth Castle Tea Rooms, join the challenging walk with locals and other visitors.  Pause for lunch on Jawbones Hill, look out over Dartmouth and the River Dart and take in the breath-taking views.  Be sure to bring a picnic!

GARDEN PARTY AT SOUTH DEVON RAILWAY, BUCKFASTLEIGH & TOTNES

Visit the South Devon Railway this bank holiday weekend for a whole host of entertainment.  A special garden party-themed beer festival is being held at Staverton Station, so hop on the train and join in the fun.  Enjoy the selection of Royalty themed events taking place whilst sipping on a local beer.  Arrive to the beer festival in style, this Jubilee weekend.

JUBILEE CRUISE WITH PLYMOUTH BOAT TRIPS, PLYMOUTH

Set out on a boat cruise this bank holiday weekend.  With a selection of cruises to choose from, including an adult only ‘summer party night’ cruise on
the 4th of June, check out their website to book.  Celebrate the Queen in style on the water and enjoy what the South Devon coast has to offer.

JUBILEE PICNIC ON CORONATION PARK, DARTMOUTH

Join the big picnic at Coronation Park, a free event for the whole family.
Bring your own picnic or grab some barbeque food.  With children’s entertainment, Morris Men, and Walking Rugby happening throughout the day, there are lots of events to get involved in.  Come together with the locals for a day of fun to celebrate the Queen’s Jubilee.

MUSIC ON THE MEADOWS, TORQUAY

A full day of free family entertainment on stage and across Torre Abbey Meadows.  This event is featuring music from across the decades of the Queen’s reign, including DJ sets and live music from a selection of genres.  Pop on down to enjoy some music in the sunshine and celebrate with the rest of Torbay!

MUSIC & ENTERTAINMENT IN ROYAL AVENUE GARDENS, DARTMOUTH

This community event is being held from Friday 3rd to Sunday 5th June as part of the town’s Jubilee celebrations.  Music and entertainment are being held in the Avenue Gardens each afternoon.  Stop by and join in the ‘street party’, to enjoy some refreshments and the variety of music!

PRAWLE FAIR, EAST PRAWLE

The place to be on Saturday 4th of June to celebrate the Platinum Jubilee.
Make your way to East Prawle to enjoy traditional fair rides, stalls, live music, and refreshments.  With a fancy-dress competition for the children, Maypole dancing and South Devon’s famous Pigs Nose Inn, join in the festivities and celebrations this bank holiday weekend.

ROYAL WILLIAM YARD JUBILEE CELEBRATIONS, PLYMOUTH

Enjoy the outdoor celebrations at Royal William Yard this extended bank holiday weekend.  With ‘Yard Sessions’, and a Food and
Craft Market, there is lots to get involved with.  Appreciate the chilled tunes by the water and try some tasty food.  Watch the light beacons beaming out across Plymouth, and join in the festivities at this all weekend event.  Check out the website to find out more.

THE BIG JUBILANT JAMBOREE, DARTINGTON

Three days of festivities and fun on and around the Great Lawn at Dartington over this Jubilee Bank Holiday weekend.  The outdoor spaces will be filled with one massive party for all ages.  This is a free event with live music, games and more each day.  Check out their website to see the full timetable, and join in the fiesta to celebrate the Queen Platinum Jubilee.

THE DURANT ARMS JUBILEE GIN FESTIVAL, ASHPRINGTON

This local gin festival is being held from Thursday 2nd until Sunday 5th June.  With a gin and Pimms bar, alongside live music, and street food, this is one to check out over this extended bank holiday weekend.  Book in for a royal inspired Sunday Lunch to cure those hangovers or as part of your Sunday walk.  Click on the link to find out what is happening when.

TORBAY AIR SHOWS, PAIGNTON & TORQUAY

This year, the Torbay Air Show falls over the Jubilee Weekend.  Head over to Paignton or Torquay on Saturday 4th and Sunday 5th June to watch the various air displays happening.  With highlights including the Red Arrows and Battle of Britain, this is an event to not miss.  On Sunday 5th, the ‘Big Lunch’ will take place on Paignton Green.  This giant air show street party will have a range of refreshments on offer for you to enjoy whilst watching the flying displays.  Check out the website to see the timetable of events.

If none of these take your fancy, why not organise your own street or garden party?  With afternoon tea being a speciality of Devon, why not get yourself some scones, jam, and cream, and celebrate with your nearest and dearest!
