The Tar Barrels of Ottery St Mary is a tradition dating back hundreds of years.  It is a free event to attend where full-sized tar barrels are carried through the street in a procession to the town’s bonfire.  The procession begins at 7pm but get there early to grab a spot because it is a popular event for both locals and visitors.  The procession is followed by a fabulous fireworks display.  This year’s event is happening on the 4th of November.  Be warned, this is not an event for small children and can get very crowded.

This November 5th, head to Lupton House for a Bonfire Night celebration.  From 4pm-6pm, enjoy glow sticks, sparklers, and face paint.  Come in your best costumes for the fancy dress competition, and enjoy the fireworks display and bonfire.  There will be a barbeque and refreshments available on the evening.  Be sure to grab your tickets today to not miss out on Your Devon Escape.

On the 5th of November, Plymouth Hoe will be lit up with a spectacular bonfire and fireworks display.  The evening begins at 5pm, with fairground rides, and food and drink on offer.  Radio Plymouth will be entertaining for the evening with a music programme starting at 6pm.  Located near the lighthouse, you will find the bonfire which is being lit at 7:30pm.  Spot Guy Fawkes sitting on top of the bonfire.  At 8pm, the fireworks will begin, taking place from the Royal Citadel.  If you want to make a day of it, check out our journal entry for recommendations of what to do in the city of Plymouth.
