Bonfire Night in Devon

FIREWORKS AND TAR BARRELS AT OTTERY ST MARY

The Tar Barrels of Ottery St Mary is a tradition dating back hundreds of years.  It is a free event to attend where full-sized tar barrels are carried through the street in a procession to the town’s bonfire.  The procession begins at 7pm but get there early to grab a spot because it is a popular event for both locals and visitors.  The procession is followed by a fabulous fireworks display.  This year’s event is happening on the 4th of November.  Be warned, this is not an event for small children and can get very crowded.

LUPTON HOUSE BONFIRE AND FIREWORKS

This November 5th, head to Lupton House for a Bonfire Night celebration.  From 4pm-6pm, enjoy glow sticks, sparklers, and face paint.  Come in your best costumes for the fancy dress competition, and enjoy the fireworks display and bonfire.  There will be a barbeque and refreshments available on the evening.  Be sure to grab your tickets today to not miss out on Your Devon Escape.

PLYMOUTH FIREWORKS

On the 5th of November, Plymouth Hoe will be lit up with a spectacular bonfire and fireworks display.  The evening begins at 5pm, with fairground rides, and food and drink on offer.  Radio Plymouth will be entertaining for the evening with a music programme starting at 6pm.  Located near the lighthouse, you will find the bonfire which is being lit at 7:30pm.  Spot Guy Fawkes sitting on top of the bonfire.  At 8pm, the fireworks will begin, taking place from the Royal Citadel.  If you want to make a day of it, check out our journal entry for recommendations of what to do in the city of Plymouth.

TEIGNMOUTH AND SHALDON BONFIRE AND FIREWORKS DISPLAY

See a blazing Viking ship set sail from Shaldon Beach followed by fireworks set off at The Point in Teignmouth.  This 4th of November head to Shaldon Beach for the free community event.  The bonfire on Shaldon Beach is lit at 6:30pm and the fireworks begin from The Point at around 7:15pm.  Some of this is tide dependent.  With locals and visitors alike coming together for this traditional Bonfire event, with a burgers, sparklers, and good old fashioned bonfire night fun, be sure to not miss out on Your Devon Escape.  If you would like to contribute clean wood and Viking themed guys for the Viking Ship, bring them to the beach on the day.

THE BIG SHEEP FIREWORKS

Join The Big Sheep this November 5th for an unforgettable evening of excitement, warmth and joy at the Big Bonfire and Fireworks event.  Don’t miss out on this night of family fun, delicious food, and dazzling fireworks.  There will be a music all evening from their in-house disco and food trucks offering delicious dinner and drink options.  Enjoy toasting marshmallows, spinning your sparklers and a rocket display at this bonfire night event.  All tickets must be prebooked in advance with spaces allocated prior to arrival so be sure to check out their website to not miss out on the fun on Your Devon Escape.

WESTPOINT CHARITY FIREWORKS EXTRAVAGANZA

A spectacular bonfire celebration at Westpoint on the 4th of November.  The fireworks are being organised by Sonic, the British Champions, set to your favourite tunes, hosted by Radio Exe.  Gates open at 5pm, with admission allowed until 7:20pm.  Alongside the fireworks, Westpoint will be hosting funfair rides, various catering outlets, and bars.  The profits for this event will all be going to charities of the organisers’ choosing.  Pre-booking is essential for this event, so check out their website and book today!
