Kingsbridge

With many beautiful beaches only a stone’s throw away, and a bustling high street with lots of independent cafes and shops, Kingsbridge is the perfect destination for all.

Kingsbridge is a town full of activities which can be enjoyed throughout the year.  It is located within the South Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, situated on the Kingsbridge estuary, and is surrounded by beautiful, rolling countryside.  This makes the town an ideal destination for those wanting to enjoy a walk on the South Devon Coast Path, sailing trips or simply time to relax at one of the many nearby beaches.

The estuary itself is the perfect spot for paddleboarding, kayaking and sailing.  Hire equipment for the day or bring your own!  Check out WaterBorn SUP, located at The Crabshell Inn to hire a paddle board or enjoy a session on the estuary.  Or if water sports are not your thing, there are vineyards, and a multi-use space consisting of pottery workshops and skating, right on the doorstep.

The local area is rich with history, with Kingsbridge being the main market town for centuries.  The town has kept many of its historic buildings, so keep an eye out as you are wander through the cobbled streets.  If you want to know more about the town’s history, pop into the Cookworthy Museum, where you can see a collection of photographs from the 1870s to present day.

Keeping with the market town theme, Kingsbridge is filled with independent shops selling local produce along historic cobbled streets.  The town is a hub of restaurants, cafes and pubs selling local beers and ciders which are produced nearby.  There is an old cinema showing all the latest films, a perfect rainy-day activity, and a leisure centre with a swimming pool if the kids need to swim off some steam.  There are also two young children’s play spaces in Duncombe Park and the Recreation Grounds.  The recreation grounds are also home to tennis courts and a boules area.

Kingsbridge holds a range of events throughout the year, including a Food and Music Festival, Kingsbridge Fair Week, and Kingsbridge Show.  There is an event for everyone in this delightful town.  For more information about what is on when you are visiting, pop into the information centre in the town square.

If you want to explore more of the stunning South Devon Coast, then hop on the Number 3 bus which takes you along the scenic coastline to the charming Dartmouth or one of the villages or beaches along the route.
